The Directorate of Medical Education has issued a fresh recruitment notification to fill 220 Assistant Professor posts across government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh. The move aims to address faculty shortages and strengthen both medical education and patient care services across the state.
According to the notification issued on January 7, the recruitment drive will cover a wide range of clinical and non-clinical departments. Online applications will be accepted from January 8 to January 22, with submissions closing at 11:59 pm on the final day. Officials have urged eligible doctors to apply within the stipulated timeline.
The recruitment comes at a time when Andhra Pradesh is expanding its medical education infrastructure with new colleges and increased postgraduate seats. Officials said filling these vacancies will help improve teaching standards while also easing the burden on existing faculty in government hospitals.
Assistant Professors play a critical role in training undergraduate and postgraduate students, supervising clinical work, and delivering specialized care. By strengthening faculty strength, the state aims to ensure better learning environments for students and improved treatment outcomes for patients who depend on public hospitals.
The 220 posts are distributed across several major medical disciplines, reflecting the need for both core and advanced specialties. Departments with higher numbers of vacancies include General Medicine with 18 posts, General Surgery with 13, Obstetrics and Gynaecology with 15, Anaesthesia with 14, and Radiology with 20 posts.
Super specialty departments also feature prominently. Cardio Thoracic Surgery, Neurosurgery, and Nephrology each have 10 vacancies. Other departments included in the notification are Paediatrics, Orthopaedics, Ophthalmology, Psychiatry, Emergency Medicine, Pathology, Forensic Medicine, Urology, and Plastic Surgery.
This broad distribution highlights the government’s focus on strengthening tertiary care services alongside academic teaching capacity.
Eligible candidates must meet the qualifications and experience requirements prescribed for Assistant Professor posts under government medical services. Applicants are required to submit their applications online through the portals of the Andhra Pradesh Medical Services Recruitment Board and the Directorate of Medical Education.
The detailed notification outlines eligibility criteria, reservation norms, selection process, and document verification guidelines. Candidates are advised to carefully review the instructions before submitting their applications to avoid errors that could lead to rejection.
