Campus
The campus of this medical institute has many buildings and is spread over 156 acres in the chowk area of the city of Lucknow. There are four faculties and institutes under the umbrella university: The Faculty of Medical Sciences, The Faculty of Dental Sciences, The Institute of Nursing, and The Institute of Paramedical Sciences. Across these areas of study, the university enrolls up to 1,580 undergraduate students and over 450 postgraduate students. The campus is a sight to behold, known for its ethereal beauty and evocative landscape that has continued to serve as a point of scenic beauty to the public over the last hundreds of years.
Foundation and History of KGMU-
Then Prince of Wales, King-Emperor, George V in 1906, during his second visit to India, laid down the foundation stone of this majestic medical institution which was later named after His Royal Highness, the Prince himself. As soon as the College was completed and ready for the opening, its first medical session was held in October 1911, but the official opening ceremony of the institution didn't take place until January 1912. Since then the institution has been dedicated to excellent medical education, unparalleled medical ethics, groundbreaking research, and exceptional patient care.
Co-curricular
The students at King George's Medical University are encouraged to pursue their interests and hobbies outside the academic curriculum which helps them to develop an integrated personality. Student clubs at the college level promote the holistic growth and development of students and help them to establish their niche outside the curricular world of academia. The University supports various students clubs and societies like the Dramatics Society, Athletes association, MedLit Society, Anatomical Society, Physiology Society, and Soul Cushions- which is a student body society organizing various extracurricular activities ranging from art and photography exhibitions, poetries ( Ballet), skits, musicals, dancing competition, and many more fun activities. Celebrating Vasant Panchami to welcome the arrival of spring is one of the most integral and prominent traditions of KGMU being followed from the time of its early establishment.
On Campus Facilities -
The university offers an ample number of facilities to students and faculty members. The university has a central library with a vast collection of reading materials, separate boys' and girls' hostels, cafeteria, convention hall, sports center, etc. KGMU houses a spacious library, stocked with more than 35,075 books, 2,690 book banks, and thousands of CDs, research journals, etc. The residing hostels for boys and girls are located within the campus itself which makes the commute to the classes and clinical postings easier. Convenience stores are also present at the campus for students and apart from these facilities, King George’s Medical University facilities also has an IT infrastructure, medical center, guest house, parking space, bank, ATM and transportation services. The facilities of the university ensure students spend a hustle free life at the campus.
My five-year journey at the Dental School of KGMU has left a huge impact on me. It has shaped me into a better version of myself by incorporating medical ethics, moral values, team spirit, responsibilities, and a sense of integrity. This journey and this place will always hold a special place in my heart and I'll forever be grateful for my time here.
