Dubai, UAE: Two separate incidents on Dubai’s roads have drawn attention to the risks of reckless driving and the harsh financial consequences of serious accidents. A 36 year old Indian biker is facing a hospital bill close to Dh400,000, while Dubai Police have seized a supercar and fined its driver after a stunt video went viral.
On January 18, 2026, Avinash Sequeira, a 36 year old Indian expatriate, met with a serious motorcycle accident on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road (E311) near Dubai Silicon Oasis and Liwan.
Sequeira was riding as part of a weekend outing with a group of bikers. Reports said the crash occurred after the bike skidded on a gentle curve, causing him to lose control and fall heavily on the highway.
Emergency responders rushed him by ambulance to Fakeeh University Hospital, where doctors confirmed he had suffered multiple fractures in both legs and his right hip.
Doctors performed two major surgeries to stabilize the fractures and inserted steel rods to support his injuries. Medical teams have reportedly indicated that Sequeira may still require further procedures, including additional work on his left leg and reconstruction of the bone below his right knee.
His family has been told that recovery will take time, and he may need months of rehabilitation and physiotherapy before he can walk again.
As Sequeira continues treatment, the financial pressure has grown rapidly. His hospital bill has reached close to Dh400,000, which is approximately ₹1 crore.
The situation has become even more difficult because Sequeira works as a freelance events management professional and reportedly does not have medical insurance.
Meanwhile Khaleej Times quoted, according to the victim’s father Sunil Sequeira, a real estate broker, the family has no means to meet the escalating medical expenses.
“We were alerted after Avinash’s iPhone automatically sent out an SOS alert following the crash," he said. “By the time we reached the hospital, he was already being prepared for surgery."
In another road safety related case, Dubai Police acted against a driver after a supercar stunt video spread widely online.
On January 3, 2026, authorities seized the vehicle after footage showed the car being driven dangerously across multiple locations in Dubai. The video reportedly captured reckless maneuvers, loud disturbances, and illegal modifications that created flames.
Dubai Police imposed a AED10,000 fine, which must be paid before the driver can reclaim the supercar. Officials also referred the driver to higher authorities for further action.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Acting Director of the General Department of Traffic, stressed that such behavior puts lives at risk and will not be tolerated.
Dubai Police also highlighted that they use advanced monitoring systems and technology to identify traffic violators, including those exposed through viral online content.
