90 Day Fiancé star Nikki Exotika (real name Nicole Sanders) was recently hospitalized following a "very complicated" breast reconstruction surgery that led to excessive bleeding and dangerously low blood pressure.
The 49-year-old singer and Season 10 alum, who had openly shared her plans for the procedure to address painful scar tissue from prior implants, underwent what was meant to be an outpatient operation but required overnight monitoring.
Exotika underwent the procedure to remove scar tissue (capsulectomy), perform fat grafting, and exchange her breast implants, steps she described as a "barrage of surgeries" necessary after water intrusion during a 2019 operation caused a severe infection and painful scar buildup. In an August 13 Instagram video, she explained the delay:
"This should've been done a few years ago, but I had a lot going on in my life, and now it's time to take care of it. I need to gain 15 pounds because they need to do fat grafting, a capsulectomy, and exchange of implants."
She captioned the post:
"All I will say is I’m lucky to be alive right now!"
Complications arose during the surgery, with excessive bleeding attributed to her blood being "very thin," possibly exacerbated by taking Advil (an NSAID) for headaches in the days prior, a factor linked to heightened bleeding risks, as noted by the National Library of Medicine.
Exotika's blood pressure dropped to concerning levels, leading to extended hospital observation. She refused a pre-surgery blood transfusion, a decision her friend Mike said contributed to her weakened state post-operation.
Mike, who drove her to the appointment and stayed by her side, posted the first update on her Instagram Stories:
"Nicole had a very complicated surgery today and had excessive bleeding. She's in recovery now but very weak, she refused a blood transfusion prior to surgery. They are monitoring her overnight at the hospital. I will be taking care of her, I'll be giving more updates on her progress as time passes," as per People.
Three hours later, he added a more urgent message:
"Nicole is not doing well. I've already spoken to her mom... Her blood pressure keeps dropping... The only explanation I received was that her blood was very thin which caused her excessive bleeding during surgery... She admitted to me she took Advil a few days before for her headaches which contains NSAID, she's very weak... Her family and I are very worried. Right now we are just praying she will pull through."
Hours after the initial posts, Mike reported improvement: Doctors administered blood pressure medication, stabilizing her condition and allowing discharge by the following day.
On October 17, Exotika shared her own update from home:
"I’m very weak and in a lot of pain. I’m still draining a lot of blood after my breast reconstruction surgery." She expressed gratitude for fan support, requesting privacy and rest as she heals, with ongoing blood loss through surgical drains noted as a persistent issue.
