For students learning to move from everyday language to repertory source wording and a manual analysis, Similia is a practical place to start. Its permanent Free plan includes semantic search across eight classical repertories and an allowance of three new cases and three manual analyses each month. Twenty-one classic materia medica books are publicly readable, without needing to register just to read them.

That supports a useful study sequence before a paid subscription is necessary: read, find a rubric, inspect the source and explain your analysis. The supervised exercise below shows how to evaluate that sequence. The four alternatives matter when a course requires a particular repertory, a native mobile app, an exam question bank or a specific expert-system method.

Student software: access, study tools and paid options

A supervised study exercise: from reference to rubric to analysis

This fictional exercise is for a tutor or clinical supervisor to set and review. It involves no real patient, and its output is a learning record, not a prescription.

1. Read the reference

Your tutor's paper case quotes a fictional client: 'I hate being on my own once it gets dark. I want someone in the house.' Before searching, read the materia medica entries your tutor names, and note how older authors phrase fears and states of mind. Similia Free includes 21 classic materia medica books.

2. Translate ordinary language into a rubric

Condense the client's words into a plain phrase, such as 'fear of being alone at night and wants company', and enter it in Similia's semantic repertory search. Then do the part no software can do for you:

  • open the suggested rubric;

  • read its exact wording and its parent rubric;

  • judge with your tutor whether it matches what the client said.

'Wants company' may need a rubric of its own.

The screenshot illustrates a workflow: an everyday phrase leads to source wording that a learner can inspect. The tutor still needs to check whether each proposed rubric represents the fictional account.

3. Review a repertory analysis

Select only rubrics supported by the fictional account. Do not count overlapping parent and child rubrics as separate symptoms. If your tutor wants a broader analysis, add distinct fictional symptoms first. Then create the case and a manual repertory analysis. On Similia Free, this uses one of the month's three new cases and one of its three analyses. Then question the result:

  • Which rubrics place each remedy where it is?

  • How does a very large rubric shape the picture?

  • Is one weak rubric doing too much work?

Send your reasoning to your tutor with the analysis.

Keep studying on Free; upgrade for a specific requirement

Similia runs in the browser and has an installed app for paid offline use. Its permanent Free plan needs no card and includes:

  • eight classical repertories with AI semantic repertory search: Kent, Boericke, Boger’s Boenninghausen’s Characteristics and Repertory, Boger’s Synoptic Key, Hering, Ward’s Sensations As If, Roberts’ Sensations As If and Boenninghausen’s Therapeutic Pocket Book;

  • 21 classic materia medica books, publicly readable;

  • three new cases and three repertory analyses each month.

The monthly allowance limits how many cases and analyses you create. It does not cap you at three stored cases, and it does not include AI case analysis.Beyzaa/pexels

The monthly allowance limits how many cases and analyses you create. It does not cap you at three stored cases, and it does not include AI case analysis. Semantic search inside the materia medica requires eligible paid access.

Pro gives unlimited cases and repertory analyses. It also adds Notes-to-Rubric, AI case analysis, live audio transcription and photo analysis. Those AI tasks consume credits, so unlimited cases does not mean unlimited AI. Each subscription includes a credit allowance that depends on the billing term. Top-ups are available when you need more credits. Eligible first-time subscribers can take a 14-day Pro trial, subject to checkout eligibility. The trial does not include offline use.

Pro Base costs USD 19.99 a month or USD 219.99 a year at standard rates. It does not include every premium source. For example, a course requiring Complete Repertory 2026 needs the Complete edition, USD 29.99 a month or USD 329.99 a year; translations are separate. Choose the required source first, then check regional rates, discounts and tax at checkout.

Similia’s offline study option is the paid installed app, currently Beta, with downloaded eligible sources. It supports local cases, manual repertory analyses, rubric selection and grading, plus repertory and materia medica keyword search. AI and semantic search still require internet. Offline is unavailable on Free or trial, and validation requires reconnecting at least every 30 days.

How the other four compare

Complete Dynamics Browser Edition

Despite its name, this is permanently free installed software, not a website. The free edition provides Complete Repertory browsing with text and remedy search and works offline. It has no case analysis or materia medica.

Complete Dynamics runs on Windows, macOS, Linux and Android. iOS is a separate purchase with no free trial. On other platforms, paid editions have a 30-day trial. The paid editions are:

  • Practitioner: EUR 19 for one month, or EUR 191 for a year paid upfront. Adds repertorisation, case management, materia medica and cloud syncing.

  • Master: EUR 29 a month or EUR 287 a year, and not available on mobile. Adds richer synonyms, materia medica search, formulas and editing.

Eligible homeopathy students with at least six months of study remaining can receive an extra year after buying one year, subject to vendor approval and proof of enrolment.

OpusGo

OpusGo is a native iOS and Android app from Zeus Soft. Its permanent Free Forever tier includes Kent, Boericke, the Organon and Kent Lectures, plus analysis, patient and export tools. Premium and add-ons are annual. Premium is indicatively EUR 69 a year, varying by country and tax. OpusGo has its own plans and is not a RadarOpus desktop licence.

Hompath Firefly

Firefly is a paid native Android and iOS app. It offers repertory and reference access, patient management, Quick Case Record, and student MCQ and question-bank tools. Its text-to-speech reads content aloud; it is not transcription.

Firefly Prime is a separate edition. Check the regional price, licence duration and included features for the edition you choose.

Vithoulkas Compass

Compass runs in the browser on desktop, tablet or phone, with no installation. After a seven-day trial, it requires paid access. Its expert-system analyses (Solve, Differential and Specific Remedy Analysis) consume one credit each. Credits work only with an active subscription.

  • UK student Light: EUR 15 for one month or EUR 114 for 12 months, subject to status approval.

These rates are not global. Indian rates differ, and VAT is added where applicable.

What would make a paid plan useful?

Similia upgrade decisions for student work

A course that mandates a particular library or expert-system method may change your choice. Verify that requirement with the tutor before paying. Graduation alone is not an upgrade requirement: keep using Free while its sources and allowances cover your work.

Start with one explainable analysis

Create a Similia Free account and work through the fictional exercise with your tutor. Judge the software by whether you can find the source wording, justify each selected rubric and explain the manual analysis. You can evaluate that study workflow without a card or a trial deadline.

Move to a paid edition when your course needs its sources, you exceed either monthly case/analysis allowance, or a Pro AI or offline task becomes useful. Check the source edition, credits and trial eligibility in Similia plans and pricing. The next purchase should follow a concrete study need.
