Laxmikant Tiwari, the Radiological Safety Officer at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, Chandigarh, has been selected for the Bharat Gaurav Award in recognition of his professional contributions to radiological safety and his social service work. The award was presented by Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria during a ceremony in Chandigarh attended by dignitaries from public life.

About the Awardee: Laxmikant Tiwari

Born and educated in Chandigarh, Tiwari has been serving at GMCH Sector 32 since 1994, developing and ensuring high standards in radiological safety protocols for diagnostic imaging and patient care. Over his long career, he has earned recognition for his dedication to safe radiological practices, which help protect patients and healthcare workers from unnecessary radiation exposure during medical imaging procedures. In addition to his duties at GMCH, Tiwari serves as National President of the Indian Association of Radiological Technologists and has twice received the State Award from the Chandigarh Administration for his social service contributions.

He has also been involved with the National Commission for Allied Healthcare Professionals, where he contributed to policy formation and served on key committees, highlighting the expanding role of allied health professionals in India’s healthcare system.

He has conducted multiple blood donation drives, dental screening camps, and medical awareness initiatives. In addition, he made a short film addressing the sensitive issue of gender-based sex selection, aimed at tackling this sensitive issue and increasing social awareness. The film received approval from the Government of India and has been screened by several government institutions.

What Is the Bharat Gaurav Award?

The Bharat Gaurav Award is presented by the Bharat Gaurav Award Foundation, established to honour and motivate individuals who have made meaningful contributions to society and nation-building through excellence in their professional fields or social service. The Foundation selects awardees based on merit and impact, recognizing those whose sustained efforts have contributed to the betterment of communities across India.
