The Tamil Nadu government has filed a case before the Namakkal Judicial Magistrate Court against three hospitals and doctors allegedly involved in a kidney racket that surfaced in July 2025. It has also asked the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) to initiate disciplinary action against the doctors, Health Minister K.G. Arunraj said on July 23.
The government has also written to the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) seeking disciplinary action against the doctors, according to Health Minister K.G. Arunraj.
Speaking to reporters in Chennai on Wednesday after inaugurating 10-bed intensive care units in 11 government hospitals, Arunraj said the government would proceed against everyone involved in the case without bias or political interference.
"We have recommended disciplinary action against the doctors involved to the Tamil Nadu Medical Council," the minister said, adding that the court case has been filed and is yet to be numbered.
According to Arunraj, the petition has been filed before the Namakkal Judicial Magistrate Court against the hospitals and medical professionals allegedly linked to the kidney racket.
The minister said the state government would ensure that action is taken against all those involved in accordance with the law.
"The government will act against everyone involved in the kidney racket case without bias, and there will be no political influence in the proceedings," Arunraj told reporters.
The developments mark the latest action in the investigation into the alleged illegal organ transplant network uncovered in Pallipalayam, Namakkal, last year.
The alleged kidney racket was uncovered in 2025 after authorities identified an illegal organ donation network involving donors from Pallipalayam in Namakkal district.
Following the investigation, the kidney transplant licences of two private hospitals were suspended, according to The Hindu. The latest legal action expands the government's response, with proceedings now initiated against three hospitals and the doctors allegedly involved.
Arunraj said the investigation is being conducted transparently and that the government would pursue the case strictly under the law.
Alongside the court proceedings, the Tamil Nadu government has formally requested the Tamil Nadu Medical Council (TNMC) to initiate disciplinary proceedings against the doctors named in the case.
The minister did not disclose the identities of the hospitals or doctors during his interaction with the media.
