Authorities in Patna have launched an investigation after a Nalanda Medical College and Hospital doctor alleged that several policemen assaulted him and his driver at the Digha check post. The incident reportedly took place on the night of 7 December 2025, a Sunday. The doctor filed a detailed complaint on the following day, after which the inquiry began. The case has raised serious concerns among medical professionals and citizens who believe police behavior in the city needs closer scrutiny.
According to the complaint, Dr. B. N. Chaturvedi was travelling with his driver, Rajkumar, when their car became stuck behind a truck that was allegedly moving from the wrong direction. When Rajkumar asked the truck to reverse, policemen stationed at the Digha check post arrived at the spot shortly after.
The doctor stated that Sub Inspector Upendra Sah allegedly grabbed Rajkumar by the collar. Several other officers reportedly joined in and began beating him. When Dr. Chaturvedi stepped out of the car to intervene, he says he was also assaulted. The driver reportedly suffered a bleeding nose and marks on his neck.
The doctor further alleged that the policemen took a mobile phone and ₹1.5 lakh in cash from the driver during the confrontation. Both men were then taken to the police station where, according to the complaint, they were kept waiting for nearly two hours. The mobile phone was eventually returned, but the cash was not. The doctor also claimed the officers urged them to settle the matter quietly instead of pursuing formal action.
Police officials confirmed that they received complaints from both the doctor and the policemen involved. They stated that CCTV footage from the Digha check post is being reviewed and that statements from witnesses are being recorded. The SDPO of Law and Order, Mohibulla Ansari, said strict action would be taken if any officer is found guilty.
Despite the seriousness of the allegations, no formal FIR was registered immediately, which led to frustration among doctors in Patna. Many believe that the delay shows reluctance to act against uniformed personnel.
The inquiry is ongoing, and authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage and witness statements to determine what occurred at the Digha check post.
