Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh: A 27-year-old woman constable posted in Pilibhit has levelled serious allegations against her husband and six of his family members, accusing them of dowry harassment and sexual assault. An FIR was registered on Sunday, December 7, following her complaint.
Her husband, also a UP Police constable posted in Gautam Buddha Nagar, along with his parents, two elder brothers, and their wives, has been booked under BNS sections 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), 352 (intentional insult to provoke breach of peace), 351(3) (criminal intimidation), and relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act. According to the Bisalpur Kotwali SHO, additional sections may be added after investigation and verification.
According to the complaint, the woman’s brother-in-law, Mukesh Sharma, allegedly molested her multiple times and raped her at gunpoint on October 5 this year at her husband’s house in Meerut.
Following this incident, a separate case was registered against him at Kharkhauda police station under BNS sections 64, 74, 351, and 352.
The constable further alleged that on September 5, she discovered her husband in an inappropriate situation with his sister-in-law, Shweta. When she confronted them, she was allegedly forced to drink sanitizer.
Her parents later admitted her to a private medical institute in Meerut for intensive treatment due to severe health complications.
She also claimed that she was compelled to take medicines for “embryonic transformation” during pregnancy because her husband and father-in-law demanded a male child. When she refused in July 2023, they allegedly went to Pilibhit and attacked her with the intent to kill.
She stated that due to the assaults during her pregnancy, her newborn son, born on January 30, 2024, suffered injuries in the womb and now experiences seizures.
The couple married on January 26, 2023, in Meerut. The complainant said her father spent nearly ₹50 lakh on the wedding, providing a car, gold, and jewellery. However, just two days after the wedding, her in-laws allegedly began demanding an SUV.
When she expressed her inability to fulfil this demand, they allegedly abused, assaulted, and threatened to kill her.
Despite ongoing harassment, the woman said she continued to endure the violence “to save her marriage” for the sake of her child. However, her husband allegedly began threatening her with divorce, and the situation deteriorated further despite repeated interventions by her parents.
