A video showing resident doctors resting on intensive care unit (ICU) beds at LG Hospital in Ahmedabad has led the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to order an inquiry. The footage, which circulated widely on social media in early March 2026, prompted hospital authorities to examine whether any institutional rules were breached.
According to reports, the video was recorded late Saturday night and later brought to the attention of civic officials. Soon after it gained traction online, AMC directed the hospital administration to submit a detailed explanation.
The footage reportedly captures a few resident doctors either lying down or resting inside the ICU ward. One doctor is seen attending to patients while another appears to be resting on an ICU bed. Officials have stated that the purpose of the investigation is to determine the exact circumstances and whether the beds used were vacant at the time.
Hospital authorities have not confirmed any disruption in patient care linked to the incident so far.
Following the video’s circulation, AMC instructed the hospital superintendent to conduct a formal review. The head of the concerned department has also been served a notice seeking clarification.
Officials indicated that the inquiry will establish:
How many resident doctors were involved
Whether ICU usage protocols were followed
If any disciplinary action is warranted
Further steps will depend on the findings of this review.
Reports suggest that LG Hospital often manages a heavy patient load. The facility receives a significant number of critical cases, partly due to limited bed availability at another AMC-run hospital, VS Hospital. This situation can lead to high ICU occupancy rates and patient referrals to other centers.
Healthcare administrators frequently highlight that public hospitals in metropolitan areas face ongoing challenges related to infrastructure capacity and workforce demands.
The civic body has not announced any disciplinary measures at this stage. Officials have stated that action, if any, will be based on the inquiry report. The review is expected to clarify whether hospital guidelines were violated and whether corrective steps are necessary.
The case continues to develop as hospital authorities examine duty practices and ICU usage norms.
