What do you do?
I’m a consultant dentist and a facial aesthetician, formerly based in Madurai, currently embracing motherhood while interning with MedBound Times; balancing smiles and stories one day at a time!
What prompted you to choose this profession?
As a science enthusiast since childhood, I’ve always been driven by a passion to serve, choosing healthcare as my path to ease pain and make a meaningful impact on people's lives.
What is the best part about being a dental student/professional?
There’s no better reward than ending the day with a patient’s smile, knowing I’ve played a part in restoring not just their aesthetics, but their confidence too.
How do you like spending your free time?
Beyond the clinic, you’ll find me whipping up recipes in the kitchen, lost in a good book, penning down my thoughts, or sweating it out at the gym.
Which is your favorite subject in dentistry and why?
I have two favorite specialties—Oral Medicine & Radiology, which fuels my curiosity to diagnose and delve deeper into complex cases, and Public Health Dentistry, where my passion lies in promoting wellness on a community-wide scale.
Which is your least favorite subject in dentistry?
If I had to pick a least favorite, it would be Dental Materials, packed with theory and memorization, it challenged my love for hands-on learning and clinical knowledge.
What are some studying tips you use to retain and understand things better?
Mnemonics, mind maps, and flashcards were my go to tools, turning complex concepts into visual stories that made learning easier and retention stronger.
Which dental procedure(s) do you enjoy/anticipate doing the most?
There’s something incredibly rewarding about restoring a patient’s front teeth; watching their confidence bloom with every smile we help bring back.
What do you enjoy more, doing an RCT or extracting teeth?
Tooth extractions fascinate me. The precision, technique, and tailored approach for each tooth make it a true blend of skill and strategy.
What are some challenges you face in your professional field?
Like many in the field, I’ve faced the challenges of long hours, low pay and market saturation.
How would your friends describe you?
An introvert at heart, a bookworm by habit, a gym rat by choice, and a mother hen when it comes to the people I love.
What has been the best/most memorable moment in your dental school so far?
The entire journey has been a continuous learning curve; shaping me into the person I am today, both personally and professionally, with every experience adding depth to my growth.
Has dentistry impacted your food choices? Like, do you consume less sugary and sticky food items?
Definitely, yes! I do enjoy my share of sweets in moderation, of course but I steer clear of sticky treats that love clinging to teeth more than they should.
As a dental health professional, what is your dental health care regime?
Brush twice daily, if not twice, floss at night! Visit your dentist every 6 months.
If given a choice, what alternate career would you have opted for?
If not a dentist, I’d have been a child nutritionist or psychologist; guided by my love for helping children grow, thrive, and find the right path in life.
Where would you like to work in the future?
Work from home! There's nothing like the comfort of your own study desk and cozy chair and a space that is entirely yours!
What is your dream travel destination?
Jordan, where ancient history meets natural wonders; from the majestic ruins of Petra to the serene waters of the Dead Sea.
Tell us a secret talent(s) that the world does not know about you?
I have a secret account on Wattpad, where I craft fiction.
What are you not very good at?
Dancing and singing aren’t exactly my strong suits.
A quote that resonates deeply with you?
