A 12-year-old US boy was taken to a hospital after he was mistakenly served an alcoholic beverage at a restaurant in Michigan. As per the report from Fox Business, the incident took place at an Outback Steakhouse in Livonia, Michigan, earlier this month. The boy, who is identified as Mekyle Cureton, was with his family when he ordered his usual virgin daiquiri for his beverage. Although, after taking a few sips, he said that his drink didn't taste normal and that his heart started beating fast as he was drinking the beverage.
It turns out that there had been a mix-up, and the beverage contained rum. After a few big gulps of the drink, the Mekyle started sensing the effects. He told Fox Business that his head started hurting when he was leaving, and his heart started beating as he was drinking it.
Mekyle's grandmother tasted the drink to try to find out if it contained alcohol, but she could not tell. As no one in the family drinks alcohol, they showed suspicion to their server and the bartender to confirm the mistake. As per the family members, their meal receipt also showed an order for a regular daiquiri, not a virgin drink.
After the incident, the restaurant apologized and did not charge the family for the meal. On the other hand, Mekyle, ended up on hospitalization. According to the report, he was diagnosed with accidental exposure to alcohol and accidental ingestion. Mekyle was given Tylenol, a pain reliever, and asked to rest, as per the outlet. He had his first hangover the next day.
The restaurant said that they took this situation very seriously and were thankful that the child involved was not seriously harmed. They have taken the appropriate disciplinary action, and all their bartenders and staff have been retrained to ensure this does not happen again.
