In a distressing incident, a senior resident doctor was found dead in a rented apartment at PT Chacko Nagar, Ulloor, here on Tuesday. A doctor working in the Department of General Medicine of the Government Medical College, Thiruvananthpuram, was found dead in a rented apartment.
The deceased was identified as Dr. Abhirami Balakrishnan, a 30-year-old resident of Vellanadu. Dr. Balakrishnan was the daughter of Balakrishnan Nair and Ramadevi. The female doctor got married four months ago.
As per the police, after having lunch, she locked herself inside the room. Her flatmates forcedly opened the door and found her lying unconscious on the bed. She was immediately taken to the medical college, where she was declared dead.
The police discovered a syringe and a suicide note in the room. The room has been sealed. Her body was shifted to the medical college mortuary. The police suspect that Dr. Balkrishna died of a drug overdose.
She was married to Dr. Pratheesh Raghu, who is a resident of Ramankulangara, Kollam. The Medical College police filed a case under Section 174 of the CrPC for unnatural death and have begun an investigation.
In another incident, a 57-year-old voluntarily retired female doctor who used to work at Joka ESI Hospital suddenly ended her life, which staggered her neighbors who knew her as a dignified and confident woman. Also, the police have verified that the couple was involved in arguments over multiple issues, but the exact reason for her death is still not clear. The incident was revealed when the husband informed the police upon discovering the doctor's hanging body in her room. Her body was sent to M. R. Bangur Hospital for a postmortem.
