A heartwarming story has emerged from Jhansi, Madhya Pradesh, where an army doctor helped a pregnant woman who went into sudden, extreme labor pain at the railway station. The woman delivered a baby girl right on the foot-over bridge, in a moment that could have easily turned tragic—if not for Major Dr. Rohit Bachwala, who stepped in with nothing but his instincts, a few basic tools, and the quiet support of the station staff.

Labor on the Platform

As per sources, the woman, a Lucknow resident, was travelling on Saturday with her husband and child on the Panvel-Gorakhpur Express (15066). Midway through the journey, her husband used the SOS app to seek urgent medical help from the railway authorities, after which she was de-boarded at Jhansi railway station in the afternoon.

A female ticket checking staff member helped her onto a wheelchair, but just as they exited the lift onto the foot-over bridge, the pregnant woman screamed in excruciating pain and collapsed.

Doctor Rushed to the Scene

Hearing the screams, Major Bachwala rushed to the spot. He was on his way to Hyderabad for a month-long break and witnessed the situation unfold while waiting for his train.

Makeshift Delivery with Pocket Knife and Hair Clip

Sensing the urgency of the situation, his doctor’s instincts kicked in—there was no time to waste. He quickly created a makeshift delivery space with the help of railway staff. Using whatever hygiene items he could gather, he safely conducted the delivery right on the platform.

The railway staff used a dhoti to cover the area and maintain privacy. Eventually, a baby girl was born. Dr. Rohit reportedly used a hair clip and a pocket knife to clamp and cut the umbilical cord.

As quoted by The Press Trust of India, Dr. Rohit said,

“With no access to a proper operation theatre, I had to rely on tools I had on me. To clamp the umbilical cord, I used hair clip. A pocket knife helped me cut it after ensuring the baby was stable. The mother and child were in a precarious condition, and every second mattered.”

After the successful delivery, both mother and child were taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance.

Gratitude Pours In from Internet and Staff

Nearby passengers were amazed by the scene unfolding before their eyes and were in complete awe of the doctor. The railway staff called the doctor an angel in the hour of need and expressed their immense gratitude to him.

Soon, the incident went viral, with the internet full of praise for the doctor who quickly acted and helped save two lives.

One user wrote, “A soldier is always on duty. Jai Hind. A soldier is a savior in every way.”

Another praised him for having incredible presence of mind and dedication towards his work.

While boarding his train to Hyderabad, Dr. Rohit told the media, “As doctors, we must be prepared for emergencies at all times, even in transit. I consider it a blessing that I could help save two lives.”
