A shocking incident has come to light from Assam’s Cachar district, where a doctor at a private hospital allegedly removed a patient’s genitals without consent during what was supposed to be a routine biopsy. The patient had visited the hospital with a complaint of genital infection.
What Led to This
A 28-year-old man, Atikur Rahman, a resident of Jiribam district in Manipur, allegedly visited a private hospital in Silchar after being diagnosed with a genital infection.
According to reports, the doctor advised him to undergo a biopsy. After the procedure, Atikur discovered that his genitals had been surgically removed, without any prior consent.
He questioned the doctor but received no satisfactory explanation. He also alleged that, following the incident, the doctor stopped answering his calls or responding to messages.
As reported by NDTV, the victim said,
“On June 19, I went to a private hospital in Silchar after an infection in my genitals. The doctor advised me to go for a biopsy test. During my biopsy test, they surgically removed my genitals without my consent. When I woke up after the surgery, I found my genitals had been removed. When I asked the doctor, he didn’t give a satisfactory answer.”
He also described how the surgery has “finished” his life, leaving him mentally distressed. He said he feels helpless as he hasn’t been able to reach the concerned doctor since.
Police Steps In
After the incident, Atikur filed a police complaint alleging that the doctor had removed his genitals without consent. The police have launched an investigation.
So far, the hospital has not issued a statement. Meanwhile, the accused doctor has allegedly gone missing and remains unreachable.
The patient has now appealed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for intervention, demanding accountability and justice.
Previous Incidents
Earlier this week, MedBound Times reported a case in West Bengal where a doctor allegedly removed a patient’s appendix instead of performing a hernia surgery, just to claim money under a government scheme. Now, this incident from Silchar has added to the growing list of questionable practices.
Why It Matters
Such incidences leave patients not just physically affected but also mentally disturbed. They often end up struggling for justice while dealing with the trauma of what happened. Repeated cases like these highlight the gaps in medical accountability, particularly in smaller hospitals where proper checks are still lacking.
