On April 28, 2025, the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, launched its revamped Health Management Information System (HMIS). Developed by the Center for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), this new digital platform replaces the legacy system from 2005, aiming to provide faster, more transparent, and user-friendly access to healthcare services for central government employees, pensioners, and their dependents.
PAN-Based Unique Identification:
Beneficiaries are now required to link their Permanent Account Number (PAN) to their CGHS ID, ensuring unique identification, reducing duplicate records, and streamlining eligibility verification.
Integrated Digital Verification and Contribution Tracking:
The new system integrates with Bharat Kosh for automatic verification of contribution payments, eliminating manual entry errors and reducing refund issues. All payments must now be made exclusively through the official CGHS website: www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in.
Pre-Payment Application Scrutiny:
Applications undergo verification before payment, allowing applicants to receive information about eligibility and contribution amounts in advance, thereby minimizing the chances of application rejection.
Online Card Modification Services:
Beneficiaries can now perform services such as card transfers, dependent status changes, and category updates (e.g., switching to pensioner status) entirely online, reducing the need for physical visits and paperwork.
Real-Time Tracking and Alerts:
The system provides SMS and email notifications at each stage of the application process, enhancing transparency and reducing the need for in-person follow-ups.
Secure Login with Mandatory Password Reset:
For enhanced cybersecurity, all users are required to reset their passwords upon first login to the new system.
Accurate Department Mapping via DDO/PAO Codes:
Employee department details are now automatically mapped using pay slip codes, ensuring accurate and efficient processing.
To facilitate the transition, all CGHS Wellness Centers were temporarily closed on April 26, 2025, for data migration and system validation. The previous CGHS websites (www.cghs.gov.in and www.cghs.nic.in) have been deactivated, with all services now consolidated on the new portal: www.cghs.mohfw.gov.in.
This comprehensive digital overhaul aligns with the objectives of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), aiming to modernize healthcare services and improve administrative efficiency. Beneficiaries are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the new system to fully leverage its features and ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare services.
