In a recent shocking incident in Harakurha village of Gaya district, Bihar, a doctor was brutally beaten for treating the mother of a rape survivor.

Dr. Jitendra Yadav was reportedly dragged out of house, tied to a tree, and thrashed until he was left bleeding—all because he treated the rape survivor’s mother.

What Exactly Happened?

According to the rape victim’s mother, the doctor visited her home in Harakura village to treat her. She said her 15-year-old daughter was raped in 2021, and three people were accused. Since then, the accused’s family has been pressuring them to withdraw the complaint. The doctor’s only mistake, she said, was supporting their family.

She added that goons from the accused side barged into the house, dragged the doctor out, tied him to a tree, and beat him with iron rods and sticks until he started bleeding.

“On May 30, we recorded our testimony, and one of the accused was arrested, and the rest are still absconding. They have beaten up our family members several times in the past to withdraw the case. The goons of the accused's side entered my house and dragged the ruler doctor,” the mother said in the media statement.

Police Response

The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Magadh Medical College in Gaya. After the attack, police visited the hospital to record Dr. Yadav’s statement. An FIR was then registered against 10 people at the Fatehpur Police Station. On June 5, three women—Khushboo Devi, Basanti Devi, and Putul Devi—were arrested during raids led by Subdivision Police Officer Sunil Kumar Pandey.

However, SDPO Pandey later denied that the case was related to the doctor’s treatment of the rape survivor’s mother, claiming it stemmed from a land dispute.

Political Turn

The incident took a political turn when opposition leader Tejashwi Yadav slammed the government on Twitter. After a video of the injured doctor went viral, he posted a statement criticizing the government’s handling of law and order in Bihar.

In the post, he said, “Bihar is in a worse condition than the Taliban. In Gaya district, a doctor treating the mother of a rape survivor was tied to a tree and beaten until he was covered in blood.”

He further criticized the government’s failure over the past 20 years, saying police and administration have been unable to prevent crime, arrest criminals, or deliver justice. This has led to chaos where people take the law into their own hands. He accused the Chief Minister of being ‘unconscious,’ the government of being ‘intoxicated,’ and officials and ministers of looting the treasury, leaving administration in disarray.

What's Next?

The attack on the doctor has led to police action and arrests. The case has drawn political attention amid ongoing concerns about law and order in Bihar. The investigation is ongoing.
