In Noida, a Golden Retriever dog brutally attacked a female doctor on November 20. This dreadful incident happened in Noida’s Gardenia Galleria in Sector 46.
The victim, a 29-year-old woman, is a senior resident doctor at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The dog’s teeth pierced into the woman’s skin and formed a gushing wound on her face. She sustained a category-3 bite, for which she had to undergo four stitches.
According to the victim, she had gone to her aunt to celebrate Chath. The incident took place around 7 a.m. when she was returning to her aunt’s flat after performing rituals in the swimming pool. The dog and his owner were walking. As soon as she reached the intersection point, the dog jumped on her and started attacking her face. She tried hard, but she could not fight. This whole incident was captured on society’s CCTV.
After this dreadful incident, the injured doctor quickly came out of society and booked a cab. She was immediately rushed to Safdarjung Hospital, where she got four stitches. She also alleged that the dog’s owner neither helped her nor apologized to her.
The doctor in her complaint has alleged that after the attack, the dog owner didn't respond to her calls and messages about taking responsibility for the medical treatment. She explained in her statement that Rs 30,000 has been spent on getting vaccinations and immediate treatment, but the dog owner has been ignorant after being contacted. An FIR under sections 289 (negligent conduct with respect to animals), 338 (whoever causes grievous hurt to any person by doing any act so rashly or negligently as to endanger human life), and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC was filed on November 25 after the victim brought the matter to the attention of Noida authorities and police officials.
The victim is planning to get married next year; if the wound does not heal, she might need wound debridement surgery.
The Chairperson of Felix Hospital, Dr. D. K. Gupta, while speaking about rising cases of dog bites, states that,’’ When we talk about the severity of dog bite wounds, it can be broadly classified into category 1, 2 or 3. If the bite injures the victim near the skull, it is classified as a category 3 wound. Passive immunity treatment is to be done so that the virus doesn't spread further. Active immunization is another way to treat so that immunity gets boosted up which is to be done after 14-28 days of the attack. The affected area must be cleaned with water and soap as soon as possible. Don’t apply cream around the wound.”
