In a tragic incident, a popular Instagram influencer from Mozambique passed away after undergoing cosmetic surgery in Istanbul—something she had long dreamt of to enhance her beauty.
Free Surgery in Exchange for Promotion
Ana Barbara Buhr Buldrini, a 31-year-old influencer and singer, had travelled to Istanbul on Friday. Reports say she had always wanted cosmetic procedures to improve her appearance. This time, she was offered free breast augmentation, liposuction, and a nose job in exchange for promoting Tusa Hospital on social media, where she had nearly 8 lakh followers. She also occasionally posted singing videos.
Her husband, Elger Miles, also a singer, told the Daily Mail,
“She wanted to undergo these procedures to improve her aesthetic standards. It was a dream of hers.”
The couple had initially planned to reschedule the surgery from Wednesday to allow Ana one more day to recover. They visited the hospital on Sunday just to look around, but due to scheduling changes, the doctor suggested doing the surgery that same day.
However, the couple had reservations—since they had partied with the physician the previous night, they were unsure if Ana’s body was ready for the procedure.
We went to the clinic on Sunday just to see the place, but the doctor wanted to perform the procedure without Ana being prepared. The doctor assured me there were no issues and everything would go smoothly.

He added that Ana was eventually convinced to go ahead with it, despite their concerns.
The surgery was carried out the same day and wrapped up around 11 p.m., and Ana was moved to recovery.
Cosmetic Surgery Took Her Life
Miles said the doctor even shared a photo of Ana recovering, and staff kept updating him, saying she was still under anesthesia and would wake up shortly.
But soon after, the staff’s behavior changed, and he sensed something was wrong.
“They told me to wait in the room, but the assistants started acting oddly. I ended up waiting an hour and 15 minutes before I was given any news about her,” he said.
Eventually, doctors informed him that Ana had passed away.
“I went to the ground floor, and one doctor said her heart was beating slowly. Another said she was already dead.”
It is alleged that Ana suffered a cardiac arrest following a botched plastic surgery procedure.
Police Investigation On
All the doctors present at the hospital were detained but were later released. Tusa Hospital issued a statement denying any wrongdoing, stating that the staff did everything they could to revive her.
According to Turkiye Today, the hospital claimed Ana had signed all necessary consent forms and experienced an unexpected complication during recovery, leading to ventricular fibrillation. Despite efforts by their anaesthesiology team, she could not be resuscitated.
Why It Matters
The exact cause of Ana’s death is still under investigation. Meanwhile, concerns continue to grow over the safety of cosmetic surgeries offered under social media promotion deals.
