Youth pregnancies are a big issue in Kenya. The National Data shows 1 in every five teenage girls is a mother by the age of 19. Kenya also ranks third worldwide in teenage pregnancies.
Therefore, it is the need of the hour to provide sex education. Aid groups are trying to provide sex education digitally by launching an app.
The mobile app named 'Nena Na Binti' has been launched to provide teenagers with extensive information on reproductive health and direct interaction with professionals and counselors remotely. The name translates to 'Speak with a sister' in the local language of Swahili.
State authorities also state that training young people in communities helps in programs that benefit young mothers.
Kenya's Ministry of Health adopted a 10-year National Reproductive Health policy in July 2022 to address the reproductive health of adolescents and young adults.
