Bizzare, doctors removed a 30 cm live eel from a Vietnamese Man's abdomen at Hai Ha District Medical Center in Vietnam’s northern Quang Ninh Province.

The man is a 34-year-old patient, who visited the Hai Ha District Medical Center in Quang Ninh Province on March 20. He complained of severe abdominal cramps. The doctors at the hospital performed an ultrasound and an X-ray which revealed a foreign object was inside the man’s abdomen. The scans also showed that the lining of the abdomen becomes inflamed due to the presence of a foreign object and it causes a life-threatening condition called peritonitis to the patient.

The doctors immediately performed an emergency surgery to remove the foreign object. While performing the surgery the doctors were shocked to find the wriggling foreign object in the abdomen of the patient. The foreign object is a live eel, measured to be 30 centimeters long. The doctors successfully removed the eel and also removed the necrotic colorectal segment of the intestine. It was a complex procedure, because of its closeness to the rectal area, there is a high probability of infection.

However, the doctors successfully performed the surgery and the patient complained of mild abdominal pain after he woke up, he was under observation. The Head of Surgery Pham Manh Hung said that this is a rare case, the rectal area has a lot of fecal fluid and is simply infected with bacteria, but it was executed safely so the surgery did not have any issues.

The doctors are shocked by how the eel ended up in the patient's abdomen. The doctors had a suspicion that the eel made its way to the colon by crawling through the anus and made its way to the abdomen of the patient. The doctors are astounded that the eel was still alive upon removal.
