Mangaluru Hospital Performs Karnataka's First Cadaveric Bone Donation

In a groundbreaking medical milestone, the first cadaveric bone donation was successfully performed at K S Hegde Hospital in Mangaluru, Karnataka. The donated bones were harvested from a brain-dead patient, who had been declared clinically dead by a team of doctors.

The bone donation procedure was carried out by a team of skilled surgeons and medical professionals at K S Hegde Hospital, which is affiliated with the Nitte University. The donated bones will be used for various medical purposes, including orthopedic surgeries, dental implants, and reconstructive procedures. Bone transplantation is a complex and delicate process, and the availability of donated bones can significantly improve treatment outcomes for patients with bone-related disorders or injuries.

Led by Dr. Vikram Shetty, a team of surgeons at Justice K S Hegde Hospital successfully extracted bones from a donor in a sterile operating theater environment. Assisted by Dr. Varun Shetty and Dr. Shridish Nambiar, along with the tissue bank team, the procedure paved the way for life-changing limb-saving surgeries.

The success of this cadaveric bone donation procedure was the collaborative efforts of the medical team, hospital administration, and the donor's family. Eshwara's sister made a selfless decision to donate organs after learning about his critical condition. With guidance and counseling from Transplant Coordinator Akshatha Shetty and a team of medical experts, including neurosurgeons, she consented to the donation of her brother's organs, historic cadaveric bone donation at K S Hegde Hospital in Mangaluru.
