The parents of a 9-year-old girl who died following an asthma attack are accused of neglecting her and putting her at risk. On February 9, Hopkins, Minnesota resident Amy Lynn Modrow had breathing problems while visiting a friend's home. Amy's parents, Anthony and Rachel Modrow, apparently neglected to seek immediate medical attention despite Amy exhibiting obvious signs of discomfort.

According to reports, Amy's friend's mother noticed her struggling to breathe in the early hours of February 10. She called Anthony Modrow, who gave Rachel the phone, out of concern. Despite pleas from the friend's mother to seek medical help, the Modrows allegedly declined and requested Amy be brought home instead.

After then, a family friend was called to help Amy, who was discovered to be in a serious state with blue skin and breathing difficulties. Despite their efforts, Amy's condition worsened, prompting the family friend to call emergency services three hours after the initial onset of the asthma attack.

On February 17, Amy's brain was declared dead as a result of low oxygen levels. Medical experts noted that she would have had a better chance of survival with earlier medical intervention.

Further investigation revealed troubling details, including the fact that Amy had been using her grandmother's inhaler as her parents had not refilled her own, despite it being empty for a month. Rachel Modrow reportedly attempted to stabilize Amy with home remedies instead of calling for an ambulance.

The Modrows have been charged with second-degree murder, facing up to a decade in prison if convicted. Both parents remained in detention after bond was imposed at $25,000 each, despite appeals from their defense.

Neighbors and friends expressed shock and concern, with a neighbor describing the Modrows as being careless about their daughter's wellbeing. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page set up to cover medical expenses for Amy was later renamed to assist with funeral costs, raising nearly $10,000 before it was removed.

The community regrets the loss of a young life and considers the circumstances behind the tragedy as the legal procedure continues. The case serves as an important warning of the importance of immediate medical attention in cases of asthma attacks and the responsibility of caregivers to prioritize the health and safety of children in their care.

Even as the details of the case are being sorted out in court, Amy Lynn Modrow's memory remains because of her tragic story, which serves as an alert for increased awareness and caution in protecting children's health everywhere.
