A mother’s love is truly pure, selfless, and unwavering. In a tragic yet inspiring incident in Pune, a 25-year-old full-term pregnant woman met with a fatal road accident that left her brain-dead in the hospital. This young woman left an indelible mark by donating her vital organs, saving three lives, and delivering her child.
The accident occurred on January 20 in Ahmednagar when the woman, 38 weeks into her pregnancy, was traveling with her husband on a two-wheeler. Suffering severe head injuries, she was rushed to a nearby hospital. The next day, she underwent a craniotomy followed by an emergency C-section that delivered a healthy baby boy.
Despite immediate medical intervention and close monitoring, she was declared brain-dead due to the severity of her head injuries. Her family, refusing to accept this, took her to DPU Super Specialty Hospital in Pune, where doctors confirmed the same diagnosis.
Transforming Tragedy Into Life
Despite their immense grief, her family found the courage to consent to organ donation on January 23.
One kidney and liver were allocated to two patients in need at DPU Super Specialty Hospital, who underwent transplants on January 24. Her other kidney was allocated to the common pool through the Zonal Transplant Coordination Centre and was transplanted into a patient on the same day. Her corneas have been stored at the hospital's eye bank.
