Dr. Jay Dipesh Savla was a 25-year-old, third-year postgraduate medical student and a resident doctor at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. He was from Kandivali West in Mumbai and resided at Gautam Nagar in Delhi.

On Friday at 3:55 pm, Payal Saini, the landlady of Dr. Salva’s apartment, called the police and informed them that her tenant had committed suicide. After reaching the apartment, the police found Dr. Salva hanging from a ceiling fan with a bedsheet. The police also found a suicide note in his flat and learned that he suffered from depression and was under medication.

The police called Dr. Savla's parents to inform them of his death. His parents also came to know that Dr. Savla had been suffering from depression for the past 2 years. After the autopsy at AIIMS, Dr. Savla’s body was handed over to his family members. His parents are also doctors working at a hospital in Charkop, Mumbai.

Dr. Savla’s friends said he was a passionate doctor and an active user of X (Twitter), where he recently discussed the Right to Information Act. His other friends from King Edward Memorial Hospital and Seth Gordhandas Sunderdas Medical College in Mumbai stated that he had a very good academic record and also got a very good rank in NEET PG. He was also very active in clinical scenarios and online teaching at his college.

Dr. Savla’s friend, who had recently contacted him, told the media that Dr. Savla’s condition had been worsening for the last month, and he was not able to understand its seriousness. They had discussions on conferences and work last week; he had even texted Dr. Savla to meet. He also said that Dr. Savla didn’t like his friends asking about his mental health, which is why his friends didn't tell him about it.

Dhruv Chauhan, a medical influencer and Assistant Medical Superintendent at a hospital in Delhi, mentioned in his post that Dr. Savla was a black belt in martial arts and an international chess player who was very active in all social issues. He also said that suicide among doctors has become a 'pandemic', and in the past two weeks, it has been the fourth suicide of a doctor.
