Veena and Vani were born to a couple of daily wage laborers in Telangana's Warangal district on October 15, 2003. They were unfortunately abandoned by their parents, saying they have no resources to take care of them.

The state government has been taking care of the twins since then. They were raised in a government hospital and later shifted to Shishu Vihar. Shishu Vihar is a child care center run by the Department of Women and Child Welfare. Doctors could not separate the twins as they shared critical blood vessels.
