A disturbing incident happened in the Etawah district of Uttar Pradesh. On Thursday, a paramedic’s bloodied body was found by the roadside, triggering protests at the college.

The 20-year-old deceased was identified as Priya Mishra, who was a first-year student of nursing at Auxiliary Nursing Midwifery (ANM) program in Saifai Medical College in Etawah. She was resident of Auraiya, Uttar Pradesh.

During the investigation, officials revealed that Priya had left her phone with a friend before she went missing. Also, they found out that recently, she had an argument with someone.

One of her friends informed the warden when Priya didn’t show up for her class on Thursday afternoon.

Priya's body was found in a pool of blood by the side of the road near the Sonai River Bridge, which is about 10 km from the college. The police launched an investigation into the case, with the initial investigation suggesting foul play. The police are showing possibilities that Priya might have been attacked with a sharp weapon on her neck or was shot at close range.

Nearly 1,000 students of the Saifai Medical College gathered outside the trauma center to protest against Priya's killing.

According to the reports, authorities lodged a case against two men, with the officials assuring they would be arrested soon.

Meanwhile, the investigation into Priya's death continues. A panel of medical experts has been conducting a postmortem examination to establish the exact cause of death. Moreover, authorities are searching CCTV footage from the surrounding area to understand the circumstances surrounding Priya's murder.

Akhilesh Yadav, Samajwadi Party chief, slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ruling government in Uttar Pradesh, and held them responsible for the declining law and order situation in the state.

While taking to X (formerly Twitter), Akhilesh Yadav said, "The death of a student under suspicious circumstances at Saifai University is a matter of grave concern. This is yet another distressing instance highlighting the failure of the declared zero-tolerance policy against crime, particularly during the tenure of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. A judicial inquiry into this alleged murder is imperative to uncover the truth about individuals involved in incidents similar to those at BHU and Saifai University. The government should not have the ability to shield them, even if it desires to do so.

In his post, he added that the BJP government is neither able to honor the women nor save their lives and called for a thorough investigation.
