Health Minister Ma. Subramanian said that counselling is going to be held for 1,127 vacant posts in 20 health unit districts (HUD) on February 3 and 4 for 1,021 doctors are selected through the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB) exam.

The minister also laid the foundation stone for the two hostel buildings. A 14-story hostel building for postgraduate medical students of the Madras Medical College and a 13-story hostel building for undergraduate and postgraduate students of the Tamil Nadu Government Dental College. The certification verification for the candidates who are selected has been completed and the directorate of public health and preventive medicine was in the function of sending individual intimation through the mail, said the health minister.

The Medical Services Recruitment Board, in April 2023 conducted examinations for the posts of 1,021 doctors. Nearly 25,000 candidates attended the examination. The health minister also said that due to various legal issues, the recruitment process was hindered. The 1,127 vacant posts of doctors in Aranthangi, Ariyalur, Cheyyar, Dindigul, Kovilpatti, Mayiladuthurai, Nagapattinam, Paramakudi, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Sivakasi, Tenkasi, Thanjavur, the Nilgiris, Thoothukudi, Tirunelveli, Tiruvannamalai, Thiruvarur, Virudhunagar.

Stating that there were nearly 2,000 vacant posts in the state, the health minister expressed that if the 1,021 selected doctors chose the place of posting based on their priority, the vacancies would remain unfilled, which would obstruct healthcare services to some extent. Stating that there were nearly 2,000 vacant posts in the state, the health minister expressed that if the 1,021 selected doctors chose the place of posting based on their priority, the vacancies would remain unfilled, which would obstruct healthcare services to some extent. The selected doctors will be posted to these 20 HUD's. The health minister exhorted them to change their mindset of wishing to work in places such as Chengalpattu, Turuvallur, and Poonamallee and not to move towards a middleman or get a recommendation for posting at a select locale.

Ma. Subramanian also said the doctors could participate in the counselling process and join the duty. Once all the vacant posts in the state are filled, then they can take part in future general counselling and get their chosen place of posting. The final list of candidates will be placed on February 5, after the completion of the counselling process and after the next day, the appointment orders will be given.
