A manhunt is underway in Detroit after a fatal shooting at Henry Ford Hospital on Friday morning. Police said 53-year-old Mario Green shot and killed his ex-wife, Latricia Green Brown, in the hospital basement before fleeing the scene. The hospital was placed on lockdown for a short time but later resumed normal operations.

The incident occurred just before 10:00 a.m. when Green entered the hospital and confronted Brown, who worked at the facility. According to Detroit Police Chief Todd Bettison, the two engaged in a verbal argument that escalated when Green drew a handgun and fired multiple shots. Brown, who was approximately 40 years old, died at the scene. Surveillance footage later captured Green leaving the hospital at around 9:55 a.m.

Investigators revealed that Brown had previously sought legal protection from her former husband. She filed a personal protection order in June that was denied, but a second request in July was approved. However, the order was never served to Green, leaving it unenforceable at the time of the shooting.

After the incident, authorities reported that Green fled in a white 2011 Dodge Charger with the Michigan license plate DXC7067. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Detroit’s west side near Lahser Road at around 2:00 p.m. Police believe Green left the area on foot and have warned that he remains armed and dangerous.

Witnesses reported that patients and staff inside the hospital were instructed to shelter in place until police cleared the area and confirmed there was no further threat. The lockdown was lifted later that afternoon.

Mario Green, a resident of Bloomfield Hills, is described as being 6 feet 4 inches tall. At the time of the shooting, he was wearing black clothing and a gold chain. Detroit police, along with federal agencies, are conducting a citywide search and have urged the public not to approach him but to immediately contact law enforcement with any information.

Henry Ford Health, which operates the hospital, issued a statement expressing sorrow over the death of its employee. The organization confirmed that it is cooperating fully with investigators and has launched its own internal review of the security breach. It also announced that counseling and support services have been made available for staff members affected by the incident.

Authorities emphasized that Green should be considered armed and dangerous and encouraged anyone with information about his whereabouts to call 911 or submit tips to Crime Stoppers.

The case has drawn attention to the challenges of ensuring safety in healthcare facilities.

Police continue their search for Green, stressing that the investigation remains active.
