Indian-American Doctor Convicted of Tax Fraud Gave $1 Million to MAGA Fund While Seeking Trump Presidential Pardon

Dr. Krishna Tripuraneni is a Indian-American doctor, who was convicted in a federal income tax fraud case after underreporting more than $18 million in income, has emerged as a major political donor to President Donald Trump in 2026.

According to a report published by Hindustan Times on August 7, 2026, Tripuraneni donated $1 million to MAGA Inc., a Trump-aligned political fund, in June 2026. The contribution came while the Florida-based gastroenterologist was seeking a presidential pardon from the Trump administration.

Tripuraneni reportedly filed a pardon application with the U.S. Office of the Pardon Attorney earlier in 2026, seeking a pardon after completing his federal sentence.

However, there is no established evidence that the $1 million political donation was made in exchange for a Trump pardon.

The reported Krishna Tripuraneni $1 million MAGA donation marks a significant change from his earlier political giving.

Tripuraneni was previously a relatively small political donor who supported candidates from both the Democratic and Republican parties.

His largest earlier contribution was reportedly $25,000 to Nikki Haley's 2024 presidential campaign. He also gave $1,000 to Marco Rubio's campaign in 2014, when Rubio was a U.S. senator from Florida.

The June 2026 contribution to MAGA Inc. therefore places Tripuraneni among the larger Indian-American political donors to Trump this year, according to the report.

The timing has attracted attention because the Indian-origin doctor seeking a Trump pardon reportedly made the contribution while his clemency request was pending.

Tripuraneni's Trump pardon request follows a federal tax fraud case that began more than a decade ago.

The U.S. Department of Justice said Tripuraneni was a physician licensed in Florida and specialized in gastroenterology. His primary business was Palm Beach Gastroenterology Consultants LLC in Wellington, Florida. He also operated Palm Beach Surgery Center and PB Anesthesia Associates.

Federal prosecutors said Tripuraneni knowingly underreported income from those businesses between 2004 and 2008.

The DOJ said he used funds from the businesses to pay personal expenses, including costs associated with a new home in Manalapan, condominium payments, interior improvements and tuition for his children. Some of those payments were allegedly classified as professional consulting, building repairs and miscellaneous business expenses.

The resulting tax returns understated his income and the amount of tax he owed.

The Krishna Tripuraneni tax fraud case dates to 2013, when federal authorities brought charges against the Florida doctor.

The investigation involved the Internal Revenue Service Criminal Investigation division and the FBI.

According to the Justice Department, Tripuraneni knowingly and willfully underreported income from his medical businesses for tax years 2004 through 2008.

The case focused on income received through direct compensation, distributions and corporate funds that Tripuraneni allegedly used for personal expenses.

At the time of the charges, the allegations had not been proven in court.

Tripuraneni later pleaded guilty to one count of filing false tax returns.

The federal case involved tax returns covering income from 2004 through 2008. DOJ records show that the false returns resulted in substantial underreported income and unpaid taxes.

Federal prosecutors calculated the total underreported income at $18,128,066, with approximately $6.38 million in outstanding taxes.

On April 27, 2015, U.S. District Judge Darrin P. Gayles sentenced Tripuraneni to two years in federal prison, followed by one year of supervised release and 200 hours of community service.

The U.S. Attorney's Office for the Southern District of Florida announced the sentence on April 28, 2015.

Tripuraneni had pleaded guilty to violating 26 U.S.C. Section 7206(1), which prohibits knowingly making and filing a false tax return.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher J. Clark. The DOJ credited investigators from IRS Criminal Investigation, the FBI and the Defense Criminal Investigative Service.

Tripuraneni's reported presidential clemency application seeks a pardon after completion of his federal sentence.

The U.S. Department of Justice provides a specific application process for people seeking a pardon after completing a sentence for a federal conviction.

The Office of the Pardon Attorney reviews federal pardon applications and prepares recommendations. The final decision belongs to the President.

A presidential pardon does not mean that the underlying conviction never occurred or establish that the recipient was innocent.

The clemency process can, however, remove certain civil disabilities associated with a federal conviction.

• January 2015: He pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns.

• April 2015: He received a two-year federal prison sentence.

• Early 2026: He reportedly submitted a pardon application.

Florida Department of Health records list Krishna Tripuraneni as a medical doctor with license number ME64204.

The state database, with information dated May 23, 2026, lists the license as Clear/Active with an expiration date of January 31, 2027. The record also shows a disciplinary case, with the action listed as “Obligation(s) Satisfied.”

The license record confirms that Tripuraneni remains listed as a licensed medical doctor in Florida. It does not, by itself, establish whether he currently practices medicine.

As of August 2026, the available information does not establish that the $1 million MAGA donation influenced or was offered in exchange for a presidential pardon.
