Jasmine Aujla, 30, an Indian-origin nurse who had been missing since September in California is found dead. Her husband, Gurinder Gill, 28, has been arrested in connection with his wife's murder. Jasmine was reportedly last seen at her home in Sacramento on September 30, 2026. Her husband has told investigators that she had been taken away by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while she was checking the mail, but when investigators checked with ICE to cross-check his statement, the agency denied his claim and said no activity had taken place at the couple's residence. Further investigation uncovered burnt human remains in El Dorado County on October 1, which were later identified as Jasmine’s.

According to local media reports, jewelry found with the burned remains helped investigators identify them as Jasmine's. Authorities have not publicly disclosed the exact cause of death or where the alleged killing took place.

How Did Nurse Jasmine Gill Go Missing in California?

Her cousin filed Jasmine’s missing person report on October 4, but by then, investigators had already found Jasmine's remains in El Dorado County on October 1. As detectives looked into the case, they found inconsistencies in Gurinder Gill’s account; the investigation also noted that the couple was going through divorce proceedings and a child custody dispute.

Investigators issued an arrest warrant against Gurinder Gill, and he was arrested on October 14, 2026, on a charge of murdering his wife. He was booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail and was reported ineligible for bail.

What Did Gurinder Gill Tell Investigators About ICE?

Gurinder Gill reportedly told investigators that his wife, Jasmine Aujla, was taken away by ICE agents while she was collecting mail outside her residence. When investigators verified his statement with ICE, agents said they had not visited the address he mentioned.

Investigators later looked into the case more closely, including his account and the couple's ongoing divorce matters and child custody dispute.

So far, authorities have not established any motive for the murder. Gurinder Gill has been arrested on murder charges, but he has not been found guilty in Court.

Jasmine was a registered nurse and had an eight-month-old son. According to a fundraiser started by her relative, Daman Gill, she had followed her mother and pursued nursing and wanted to provide her child a better future.

“Perhaps the most heartbreaking part of her story is that she was fighting for a better future for herself and her baby.”

She was seeking a divorce and was trying to start a fresh life; her family is now arranging money to bring her body to India and to raise and take care of her son. According to KCRA, the homicide and child custody investigations were ongoing. Gurinder Gill remains in custody on murder charges, and the allegations against him have not been established in court.
