5 UCAT Prep Courses in 2026: Features, Mock Tests and Study Resources

Compare five UCAT prep platforms offering practice questions, mock exams, AI tutoring and study resources for UK and Australian/New Zealand medical school applicants

Arushi Roy Chowdhury

The UCAT stands for University Clinical Aptitude Test. It is an aptitude test that is specifically designed to determine whether a candidate has the necessary skills required for medical and dental training.

It is a compulsory test for students who are just out of high school and wish to study medicine or dentistry in countries like the UK, Australia and New Zealand.

The UCAT differs from other medical entrance exams in the world because it doesn’t test the scientific knowledge of a candidate but instead assesses skills through four subtests: Verbal Reasoning, Decision Making, Quantitative Reasoning and Situational Judgement. The test evaluates skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving and judgement in situations relevant to healthcare. The cognitive subtests are scored on a scale of 300–900 each, giving a combined score of 900–2,700. Situational Judgement is reported separately. These skills are necessary for making decisions and working efficiently in a clinical environment.

The UCAT is open to final-year high school students who are currently aiming for medical and dental programs abroad. The entrance exam has no age limits. However, a candidate can only appear for the exam once per year.

The standard UCAT test takes approximately two hours. Candidates should check the official test-format information for the applicable testing cycle, including timings and any approved access arrangements.
