On August 13, 2025, a disturbing incident occurred at Srijan Public School in Virat Nagar, Panipat, Haryana, where a seven-year-old Class II student was allegedly tied by his legs and hung upside down from a school window. The matter came to light weeks later when a video of the assault surfaced online and went viral in late September.
The child’s mother discovered the clip, confronted the school, and filed a police complaint. Another video also showed the school principal, Reena, allegedly slapping two other children in front of their classmates.
According to the mother, the boy revealed that “Ajay uncle,” the school cab driver, had tied his legs, hung him from the window, slapped him, recorded the video, and uploaded it to social media.
When the family and the principal visited Ajay’s residence on Refinery Road, he allegedly sent some boys to confront them. On the following Sunday, police, along with the victim, his parents, and the principal, visited the school to inspect the scene.
Panipat SP Bhupender Singh confirmed that a case was registered against Ajay under relevant legal provisions at the Model Town police station. He stated that a thorough investigation was underway and assured that the accused would be arrested.
Principal Reena said she was unaware of the viral videos but admitted that Ajay had been dismissed on August 30 following complaints of misconduct. She claimed that the children she slapped had misbehaved with a girl and that their parents were informed.
Police have since arrested both Ajay and Reena, and the Haryana Education Department has taken cognizance of the matter. Authorities have ordered the school to shut down temporarily while an inquiry is conducted.
The video of the child being hung upside down has gone viral over the social media where parents have called upon authorities to look towards the case and have also called it disgusting and shameful.
The incident has sparked widespread anger over child safety and the lack of oversight in private schools. Parents are calling for stricter monitoring of school staff, mandatory background checks, and stricter mechanisms for reporting abuse.
Many such cases of corporal punishments in schools across India have gone viral in the last few days, kids have been exposed to various humiliating punishments such as forced cutting of hair, beaten with school bags and more violent cases that puts children in a vulnerable position.
