Pathologists’ Body Flags Alleged Practice Violations by Pune Doctor Under Suspension

Complaint alleges continued medical practice and report authentication despite regulatory suspension

A professional body representing pathologists has filed a formal complaint against Dr. Sreesha Mohan, a Pune-based doctor, alleging that she continued to practice and lend her signature on pathology reports across multiple private laboratories, even while her medical registration was under suspension.

Complaint Filed by Pathologists’ Association

According to reports, the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists (IAPM), Maharashtra chapter, has lodged a complaint with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC) against Dr. Mohan. The association alleged that she authenticated diagnostic reports for various private laboratories in Pune despite being officially suspended from medical practice.

The complaint reportedly states that her name and registration details appeared on laboratory reports during the suspension period, raising concerns about compliance with medical council regulations and diagnostic accountability.

Suspension and Alleged Ethical Violations

As per earlier reporting, Dr. Mohan faced regulatory action related to alleged professional misconduct, fraud, and ethical violations, which led to her suspension by the state medical council in 2024. She was found to be using her license across many private laboratories across Maharashtra where it would be impossible to physically present.

Why Signing Pathology Reports Matters

In medical diagnostics, a pathologist’s signature indicates that test results have been reviewed and validated by a qualified and licensed medical professional. This process is essential for ensuring:

  • Accuracy and reliability of laboratory results

  • Clinical decision-making by treating physicians

  • Legal and ethical accountability

If reports are signed by a doctor who is suspended or unlicensed at the time, the validity of those reports may be questioned, potentially affecting patient care and legal compliance for insurance purposes as well. In this case, insurance companies flagged the reports signed by the doctor while she was under suspension which brought the case into light.

Regulatory Review and Next Steps

Following the complaint, the Maharashtra Medical Council is expected to examine the allegations, including verification of report signatures, timelines of suspension, and the extent of alleged practice across private laboratories. The council may seek explanations from the doctor involved and from laboratories that accepted or used the signed reports.

If violations are established, regulatory authorities may consider further disciplinary action, which could include extension of suspension, cancellation of registration, or legal proceedings under applicable laws.
