Vadodara, Gujarat: On August 26, Vadodara police arrested a fake doctor who ran a clinic in Vadodara for the past 15 years without a real medical degree.
Biswajit Prafulla Haldar is a man from West Bengal who came to Vadodara and started to see patients as a Doctor for 15 years. However, things took a turn when his patients noticed that none of the medicines that were prescribed by him worked.
The police received a tip regarding the same concern from the patients about the medicines that the Vadodara fake doctor was prescribing.
On Wednesday August 26, Vadodara City Police’s Local Crime Branch, Zone-2 raided his clinic in the presence of a Medical Officer. The police found out that Biswajit Prafulla Haldar was a class 10 pass man posing as a doctor in Akota, Vadodara. His clinic was a well-functioning medical setup and looked like a regular doctor’s clinic.
He prescribed his patients allopathic medicines, gave them injections, and even performed operations on them using tongs for piles and haemorrhoids.
At the clinic, the police seized illegal medicines including 38 bottles of cough syrups worth Rs 41,000. 162 injections, 281 medicine strips, 84 tubes, 30 powdered medicines, 32 capsules, nine intravenous fluid bottles and 19 infusion sets
In an interview with the Indian Express, Manjita Vanzara, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 2, Vadodara City, said that Biswajit Haldar had a fake BAMS degree (Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery), which he used to perform unsupervised surgeries using heated tongs and no anaesthesia. He charged up to Rs 25,000 for performing these surgeries.
She said, “ He had a high number of patients coming to him daily and even earned more than some of the actual doctors in the city. Based on the tip-off, the LCB team raided the clinic and found that he had a bogus medical certificate.”
According to the police, he worked as a helper in a doctor’s clinic in West Bengal, and he must have gained some knowledge regarding common medicine from there.
The police mentioned that he mostly treated people from lower-middle-class families, and no one has checked his degree and other documents in all these years.
Investigators are now trying to obtain full information about his alleged fake practice as well as the number of patients he treated, the medicines he prescribed, and the injections that he gave.
The fake doctor from Vadodara was arrested and then let go on bail as per the law.
