Delhi Police has initiated an investigation involving multiple social media accounts and has formally requested user data from X (formerly Twitter). The action follows a complaint filed by an official of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI).

The notice was issued on April 1, 2026, by the IP Estate Police Station in central Delhi in connection with an FIR registered in March 2026. Authorities are examining social media posts allegedly targeting the complainant.

Investigation Triggered by Complaint from FSSAI Director

The case originates from a complaint submitted by an FSSAI Director, Sweety Behera, who alleged that certain social media posts were published with the intent to harm her reputation. The complaint also stated that some content included unauthorized use of personal or confidential information.

Based on this complaint, police registered a First Information Report and began a cyber investigation to identify the individuals operating the accounts.

Police Request Detailed Account and Technical Data

As part of the investigation, Delhi Police has asked X to provide specific user-related information associated with the accounts under scrutiny. The requested data includes:

  • Registered mobile numbers

  • Email addresses

  • IP logs and access ports

  • Account activity records

  • Account recovery details

The notice also mentions that additional relevant information may be required to support the investigation.

The scope of data sought, including IP logs and recovery details, has raised broader questions around user privacy and proportionality in digital investigations.

The details were sought by the authorities with respect to the following X accounts: @khurpenchh, @gemsofbabus_, @YTKDIndia, @NalinisKitchen, and @IamTheStory_, and authorities are working to establish their identity and role in publishing the content.

Legal Provisions Applied in the Case

According to police officials, a case has been filed against the social media accounts under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 72A of the Information Technology Act, along with procedural provisions under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

The investigation is currently being conducted by the IP Estate Police Station in Central Delhi.

Police have not released the complete FIR document, and further legal details remain limited at this stage.

Content Under Scrutiny Included Claims About Appointment and Conduct

According to reports by OpIndia, which cited the complaint, the posts referenced in the complaint raised questions about Sweety Behera’s professional background, including eligibility and appointment-related issues. Some of this content is no longer accessible on the platform.

As reported in OpIndia, the X accounts claimed that Behera did not meet the eligibility criteria for her appointment as Director of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. They further alleged that while she reported working at Nestlé India between 2006 and 2020, available records indicate that her tenure began in 2007.

Investigators are assessing whether the posts involved the sharing of private information and whether they violated existing legal provisions.

The X accounts also claimed that Behera did not provide evidence of the five years of supervisory experience required under the eligibility criteria. They further alleged that her documents reflected a cost-to-company (CTC) of ₹18 lakh for one year, whereas the requirement specified a minimum of two years.

Additionally, the accounts alleged that the eligibility criteria were relaxed to facilitate her appointment as Director of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India. They claimed that modifications to the CTC requirement were made in violation of the Recruitment Rules, 2018. The posts also stated that her appointment was justified on the grounds of a lack of suitable candidates, despite the presence of three candidates from the Scheduled Caste category who appeared for the interview.

Investigation Ongoing, No Final Findings Yet

Delhi Police has begun collecting digital evidence to trace the origin and spread of the posts. Officials have not disclosed further details about the progress of the case, and no conclusions have been announced regarding the accuracy of the claims or the involvement of the listed accounts.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are expected to proceed based on the data received from the platform.
