A video showing Dr. Swapna Misra, a robotic gynaecological surgeon at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, riding into the hospital on a motorcycle during its Silver Jubilee celebrations has sparked widespread debate on social media, with many questioning whether such a display was appropriate inside a healthcare facility. Others, however, defended the event, saying it was a planned celebration that did not affect patient care.
The video, which surfaced online on June 30, 2026, shows Dr. Misra riding pillion on a motorcycle through the hospital's decorated OPD lobby as staff members applauded and the Bollywood song Dhoom Machale played in the background. The motorcycle ride ended near a stage where the hospital's 25th anniversary (Silver Jubilee) celebrations were being held.
The video quickly went viral across social media platforms, prompting criticism from users who questioned the appropriateness of riding a motorcycle inside a hospital building.
Many users argued that hospitals should maintain a calm and professional environment, while others raised concerns that such celebrations could compromise the image of healthcare institutions. Some questioned whether patients or attendants might have been inconvenienced, while others criticized the decision to allow a motorcycle inside hospital premises regardless of the occasion.

"Wow riding road germs and pollution directly into the hospital. Kudos to the doctor . People in the hospital are vulnerable. If driving even in the corridors is so allowed, they should rather allow an ambulance with serious patients to drive right in the ICU. But no the patient is taken in on a stretcher to keep the area outdoor pollution free. With such stunts they can now deploy traffic police too in the hospital corridors."

Dr. Swapna Mishra is India’s one of biggest Robotic surgeons, who has successfully performed more than a thousand robotic surgeries. She’s an icon in Robotic surgery. This may not be the main area and hospital must have taken precautions.
Following the backlash, Fortis Hospital Mohali issued an official statement explaining that the motorcycle ride formed part of its Silver Jubilee celebrations.
According to the hospital, the programme was organised on a Sunday in the OPD lobby, which remains closed to patients on that day. The event brought together doctors, nurses, paramedics, administrative staff and support personnel to commemorate the hospital's 25-year journey.
The hospital further stated that:
The celebrations were held in a separate OPD wing.
Emergency services, inpatient wards and critical care units continued to function normally.
Patient care services were not disrupted.
Adequate staffing and all hospital safety protocols remained in place throughout the event.
No inconvenience was caused to patients or their attendants.
The hospital maintained that the event was carefully planned to ensure patient safety and uninterrupted medical services.
ThePrint reported that the original video shared from the hospital's primary social media account was later removed following criticism online.
However, India Today reported that a separate Facebook video highlighting the Silver Jubilee celebrations remains available and continues to feature brief footage of the motorcycle entry alongside cultural performances and other anniversary activities.
In that post, the hospital described the occasion as a celebration of "25 years of transforming healthcare, earning trust and touching millions of lives."
The incident also prompted comparisons with the Bollywood film 3 Idiots, in which a scooter is ridden through a hospital during an emergency sequence.
Several social media users noted the similarity, however unlike the film, however, the motorcycle ride seen in the viral video was part of a planned anniversary celebration rather than an emergency.
