A three year old boy in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon was rescued after his head became tightly trapped inside an aluminum pot while playing, triggering panic and breathing distress. The dramatic 12 minute rescue, carried out on February 10, involved an unusual but lifesaving collaboration between a doctor and a plumber. The video of the operation later went viral on social media.
According to reports, the toddler placed a deep aluminum vessel over his head, reportedly pretending it was a crown. Within moments, the utensil became wedged around his neck, making it difficult for him to breathe and causing him to cry loudly.
His frightened parents rushed him from one hospital to another, but several doctors declined to intervene due to fear of severe injury during removal attempts.
Eventually, the family reached Sahara Multi Specialty Hospital in Jalgaon, where Dr. Minhaz Patel decided to handle the emergency.
Realizing conventional medical tools would not safely remove the metal, Dr. Patel called hospital staff member and local plumber Khalid Shaikh for mechanical assistance.
To protect the child:
A wooden sheet was placed inside the rim
A wet cloth was added as a heat and friction barrier
The child was stabilized to prevent sudden movement
Using a high speed grinder cutter, Shaikh carefully sliced through the aluminum while medical staff continuously monitored the child. The operation required extreme concentration because of the risk of heat and vibration injuries.
After approximately 12 minutes, the utensil was removed safely without any injury.
Following hours of anxiety, the child and his parents finally breathed a sigh of relief. The rescue video quickly spread across social media, earning praise for the doctor’s quick decision making and the plumber’s steady handling of the cutting equipment.
The boy was discharged in good health soon after the procedure.
