Karimnagar, Telangana, September 9, 2025 – Police in Karimnagar have booked an OT technician at Deepika Private Hospital for allegedly raping a sedated patient during treatment for viral fever. Officials identified the accused as Dixit and confirmed that he carried out the assault while the woman was under anesthesia, sparking outrage over a serious hospital patient assault and patient safety breach.
Authorities sealed the operation theatre and collected forensic evidence and CCTV footage soon after the complaint surfaced.
Commissioner of Police Ghaus Alam stated, “We sealed the operation theatre, verified details, and seized all evidence. We registered a rape case against the accused and will disclose further details after the forensic results.”
Investigators are now examining the evidence, questioning hospital staff, and reviewing surveillance recordings to uncover the sequence of events in this anesthesia abuse incident.
This case has raised urgent concerns about medical ethical violations and healthcare facility negligence. A research paper titled “Patient Abuse in Healthcare: A Theoretical Synthesis” noted that structural loopholes and power imbalances in hospitals often expose vulnerable patients to abuse. 1
Another study, “Anesthesia Support Personnel and Patient Safety,” highlighted that poorly trained or unsupervised staff significantly increase risks to sedated patients. 2
Both papers underline the dangers of systemic lapses that enable crimes such as sexual assault under anesthesia.
