In a significant raid at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru Airport Customs officials intercepted a major smuggling operation and seized 23 kg of high-value hydroponic weeds/marijuana/ganja valued at approximately Rs. 23 crores from three passengers arriving from Bangkok on 9th January 2025.
The smugglers had cleverly packed hydroponic marijuana and premium marijuana buds in separate covers to avoid detection. However, officials uncovered the contraband during a routine baggage inspection at Kempegowda International Airport, Bengaluru.
Bengaluru Customs Zone officials play a critical role in enforcing customs regulations, preventing illegal trade, and facilitating legitimate international trade within their jurisdiction. Ms. Arti Agarwal Srinivas, IRS, currently serves as the Chief Commissioner of the Customs Zone in Bengaluru.

Airport and Air Cargo Complex (AP & ACC), Bengaluru, supervises and manages customs operations at Kempegowda International Airport and the International Air Cargo Complex in Devanahalli, Bengaluru.
The SIIB and AP & ACC, Bengaluru, apprehended the smugglers on the spot. Authorities have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and investigations are ongoing to uncover further links in the smuggling chain.
Customs authorities praised their team's efforts and vigilance, highlighting the crucial role such interventions play in combating the illegal narcotics trade. This operation serves as a strong warning to smugglers and underscores the efficiency of airport security systems.
