A distressing situation occurred in the Nalgonda district of Telangana, where around 30 monkeys were found dead in an overhead drinking water tank on Wednesday.

This drinking water tank is located in ward number 1 of the  Nandikonda municipality in Nalgonda district and it supplies drinking water to over 200 families in Hill colony. The Municipal staff had set metal sheets on the top of the water tank.

The incident came to the limelight when the residents of the area noticed the foul smell from the tank and complained to the authorities about it. The police said that the dead bodies of the monkeys were found floating in a water tank. The municipality employees removed the bodies of dead monkeys from the tank.

Officers presumed that the monkeys may have entered the water tank for water due to the blazing heat but, they could not come out of the water tank and were drenched. A preliminary inquiry uncovered that the incident happened due to a clear failure in closing the lid of the water tank which led to the loss of innocent lives.

A case has been recorded and a probe is underway. The residents of the area are enraged by the negligence of municipal authorities and are raising apprehensions about the quality and safety of the water supplied to them. They suspected that the monkeys died 10 days ago, at the same time the municipal authorities supplied the same water to them for drinking. They are anxious about the effect on their health. They called for responsibility and prompt action against the municipal authorities.
