The AIIMS Nurses Union sent a letter to AIIMS director Dr. M. Srinivas. The letter highlights that there is a shortage of trained hospital and sanitary attendants at AIIMS Delhi. This shortage has affected operation processes and also caused delays in delivering patient care.

Some of the nursing staff members expressed particular concern about the deficiency of female attendants, particularly in critical care areas such as ICUs, operation theaters, and where the critically ill patient received treatment, where their presence is very important for patient comfort and care.

According to the letter, AIIMS Delhi needs more hospital and sanitary attendants to improve clinical area support services. Hospital attendants assist patients with personal hygiene, meal delivery, vital sign monitoring, and record-keeping, while sanitary attendants ensure equipment cleanliness and patient hygiene.

The nursing staff emphasized the necessity of both male and female attendants for patient comfort and dignity, urging prioritized recruitment and retention efforts across all clinical areas.

According to nursing staff, the recruitment delays are compromising patient care. The union's plea underscores the importance of addressing staffing shortages to maintain quality healthcare services at AIIMS Delhi.
