In an unusual medical case from China, a 23-year-old man, known as Xiaoma, discovered that his persistent sneezing and runny nose were caused by a dice lodged in his nasal cavity for over two decades. The incident, reported by the South China Morning Post, has left many both shocked and bewildered.
Xiaoma initially treated his symptoms of chronic sneezing, nasal congestion, and a constant runny nose with traditional Chinese medicine, but with no relief, he sought medical help. At the hospital, doctors diagnosed him with allergic rhinitis but found something more troubling: a foreign object obstructing his nasal passage.
During a nasal endoscopy, doctors uncovered a white, secretion-coated lump, which turned out to be a 2-centimetre dice. Dr. Yang Rong, the otolaryngologist leading the case, noted that the dice had become partially corroded and adhered to surrounding tissues, posing a significant risk. Improper removal could have led to the dice falling into the airway, potentially causing suffocation. Fortunately, the surgery was successful.
Xiaoma recalled that the dice likely entered his nose when he was around three or four years old. Over the years, it went unnoticed until his recent symptoms prompted medical attention.
Social media has been abuzz with reactions to the bizarre case. Many expressed amazement at the longevity of the object in his nasal cavity, while others highlighted the dangers of such foreign objects in children. One user remarked, "How big was his nostril at three years old? It's incredible he lived with that for 20 years!"
Another commented on the corrosion, saying, "Just looking at the picture makes me uncomfortable."
Others saw it as a cautionary tale for parents, emphasizing the importance of addressing unusual symptoms promptly.
It remains unclear if Xiaoma will experience long-term consequences from the incident, but his story serves as a wake-up call to parents and caregivers everywhere.
