A Class 10 student from Bhimsar village, near Bhuj in Kutch, Gujarat, reportedly ended her life on January 17, allegedly due to ongoing mental harassment by her school principal. The tragic incident came to light on January 21, four days later, when her family discovered a suicide note among her belongings. The discovery prompted an investigation into the circumstances leading to her death.
The girl’s brother discovered the suicide note while going through her belongings. The father later confirmed the handwriting as his daughter’s.
In the note, the student accused her school principal of subjecting her to mental harassment, including repeated sarcastic remarks and expressions of regret over allowing her to pass exams. The girl explained that this ongoing torment had pushed her to take the extreme step, highlighting the emotional distress she endured.
Following the discovery of the suicide note, the family filed a complaint against the school principal. The principal has been booked under charges of abetment of suicide based on the father’s allegations. Sagar Bagmar, Superintendent of Police Kutch (East), stated that the content of the suicide note was under investigation and would be sent for forensic analysis to confirm whether the handwriting belonged to the girl. He added that further action would be taken based on the findings of the forensic and postmortem reports.
The girl reportedly used a dupatta to hang herself at home and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital. However, her family, unaware of the legal protocols required in cases of unnatural death, conducted her burial without notifying the authorities. The situation came to light only after the suicide note was discovered by her brother, days after her burial.
The police are actively investigating the case to ensure accountability, while the forensic report is awaited to confirm the suicide note’s authenticity.
