What is Anemia?

Anemia occurs when the body does not have enough healthy red blood cells or hemoglobin to transport oxygen efficiently to tissues. Hemoglobin, a protein found in red blood cells, is responsible for carrying oxygen from the lungs to various organs throughout the body. When hemoglobin levels are low, it can lead to fatigue, weakness, and shortness of breath.

There are different types of anemia, each with its own underlying cause. It can be temporary or chronic, with severity ranging from mild to life-threatening. In some cases, anemia may indicate a more serious health condition.

Treatment options depend on the cause and may include supplements, medications, or medical procedures. Maintaining a nutrient-rich diet can help prevent certain types of anemia. [1]
