A startling case of medical fraud has come to light in Lakhipur’s Kalain, Assam, where a self-proclaimed doctor was exposed during a raid by the district health department. The individual, identified as Subir Choudhury, had been allegedly posing as an MBBS doctor and providing medical treatments without proper qualifications. The raid, conducted at a pharmacy named Basanti Devi Health Care, revealed that illegal abortions were also being carried out at the facility.

The operation was led by the Joint Director of Health Services, Cachar, following multiple complaints regarding suspicious activities at the pharmacy. During the raid, several incriminating documents were seized, further substantiating the allegations. However, the accused, Subir Choudhury, managed to evade capture by fleeing the premises before officials arrived.

Despite attempts to contact him for clarification, Choudhury’s phone remained switched off, leaving authorities without his version of events. Speaking about the matter, Dr. Asutosh Barman, the Joint Director of the Cachar Health Department, stated that Choudhury was reportedly in Guwahati at the time of the raid. He added that neither the individual nor his credentials were present during the operation, making it impossible to confirm his authenticity as a qualified doctor.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Subir Choudhury had been treating patients for an extended period while claiming to be a medical professional. Reports also indicate his involvement in illegal abortion procedures, further raising concerns about patient safety and ethics.

This incident has sparked outrage and concern within the community, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and monitoring of healthcare providers. Residents have expressed shock over how such activities were carried out in plain sight, jeopardizing the health and safety of unsuspecting patients.

The authorities have reiterated their commitment to ensuring accountability and taking necessary steps to prevent similar cases in the future. Further updates on the investigation are awaited as officials work to bring the accused to justice.
