The healthcare system in Uttar Pradesh has come under scrutiny following incidents involving former BJP MP Bhairon Prasad Mishra and his son Prakash Mishra, who died from kidney disease. The ex-MP, a former Member of Parliament from Banda, UP, rushed his son to the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences at 11 p.m. on a Saturday. However, the duty doctor refused to admit him due to a lack of available beds. The ex-minister pleaded for medical attention for his ailing son on a stretcher for about an hour. The patient's condition worsened, and without any treatment, Prakash Mishra passed away.

The ex-minister staged a protest in the hospital lobby, seeking justice for his son's death, until the morning. The hospital director, Dr. DK Dhiman, arrived at the scene around 4 a.m. and promised to take action against the medical personnel involved. The government of Uttar Pradesh has commissioned a high-level probe into the incident. Finding the doctor guilty, the director fired him on Sunday as punishment. The state has issued a warning to the director to prevent similar incidents from recurring in the future.

A three-member committee, consisting of Dr. Sanjay Dhiraj, Dr. VK Pallwal, and Dr. RK Singh, who is the head of the Department of Emergency Medicine, has been formed by the director of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI), Lucknow, to investigate the incident. Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav criticized the state government for the incident, stating that elections appeared to be more important than the lives of people. He emphasized that it was not just about a particular person dying due to a lack of treatment but about the value of every citizen's life.
