The government of Jammu and Kashmir has reiterated its dedication to establishing world-class healthcare infrastructure in the region, with the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Awantipora project taking center stage. During a high-level review meeting led by the Minister for Health & Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Masood Itoo, the progress of the prestigious project was comprehensively evaluated.
The meeting focused on both physical and financial advancements, with critical discussions surrounding water supply arrangements, construction of approach roads, and other essential facilities. Senior officials, including the Secretary of Health and Medical Education, the Executive Director of AIIMS, the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama, and Chief Engineers from CPWD, PWD, and PDD, participated in the session to ensure collaborative efforts for the project’s timely completion.
Ensuring Swift Execution
Minister Itoo emphasized that healthcare remains a top priority for the government, describing the AIIMS Awantipora project as a transformative initiative for the Kashmir Valley and beyond. Terming the institute a “beacon of hope” for remote areas, she highlighted the importance of providing quality healthcare services to underserved populations.
To monitor and expedite progress, the Minister directed the Deputy Commissioner of Pulwama to convene monthly review meetings and submit regular updates. Project execution teams were instructed to accelerate construction by increasing workforce capacity and ensuring that interior works continue throughout the winter season.
A deadline of March 2025 was set for the completion of tube wells and bore wells to secure an uninterrupted water supply for the facility. Additionally, Minister Itoo stressed the importance of maintaining high-quality standards in construction and urged all stakeholders to work collaboratively to prevent delays and bottlenecks.

The AIIMS Awantipora project is anticipated to revolutionize healthcare accessibility, create job opportunities, and promote medical research within the region. Minister Itoo expressed optimism, stating, “AIIMS Awantipora represents a significant milestone in Jammu and Kashmir’s healthcare development. It will transform the medical ecosystem while ensuring that world-class healthcare services are available to all.”
