Gwalior: Two days after a final-year MBBS student accused a colleague of sexually assaulting her in the boy's hostel, the Gwalior police successfully apprehended the accused doctor, who had been on the run since Sunday.

Although earlier reports identified the accused as a senior doctor, PTI clarified that he is, in fact, a junior doctor at Gajraraja Medical College, Gwalior, where the assault allegedly took place. The accused and the victim were said to be classmates.

Medical Dialogues reported that the student, who had traveled from Datia to Gwalior to appear for a supplementary exam, claimed she was sexually assaulted by a doctor in the boy's hostel of the medical college. The student alleged that when she tried to resist and call for help, the doctor threatened her. She stated that the doctor had invited her to the boy's hostel under the pretense of discussing work. Once inside, the doctor locked the door and assaulted her.

The incident occurred on Sunday, after the student completed her exam. She met the doctor at the college, and he allegedly called her to the boy's hostel for academic purposes, where the assault then took place.

According to an ANI report, the incident occurred at the old boy's hostel, which is currently being demolished for construction. The doctor, who was a batchmate of the student, invited her to meet him there. It was at this location that the alleged sexual assault occurred, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ashok Singh Jadon.

Following the victim's complaint, the police filed an FIR against the accused under the relevant rape laws at Kampu police station and arrested him. The police also conducted an inspection of the incident site. DSP Jadon confirmed that the victim had been staying in the girl's hostel while the accused resided in the nearby boy's hostel.

The 25-year-old junior doctor, also aged 25, was arrested on Monday after the alleged assault on January 5, 2025. The victim, who was staying in the girl's hostel to take her exam, was called by the accused to meet at the abandoned boy's hostel, where the assault allegedly occurred. After the assault, the victim reported the incident to Kampu police station, prompting the doctor's arrest.

In another report by Free Press Journal, the victim, who had traveled to Gwalior for her supplementary exam, alleged that the doctor threatened her when she tried to resist and call for help. She claimed that the doctor, posing as a senior colleague, invited her to the boys' hostel for work-related discussions. After following his instructions, she was allegedly locked in the room and assaulted.

The accused, initially reported to be absconding, is now under police custody. Investigations are underway to determine his whereabouts and bring him to justice.
