India’s Ras Malai Claims 2nd Position in Top 10 Best Cheese Desserts in the World

Ras Malai is an Indian popular dessert, that comprises white cream, sugar, milk, and chhana (cardamom-flavored paneer cheese).

India’s food diversity made headlines again. Recently India's Vada Pav was listed as one of the top 20 best sandwiches in the world and now India's Ras Malai Ranked second in the TasteAtlas’s list of top 10 best cheese desserts in the world.

TasteAtlas, an online travel and food guide shared a list of 10 Best Cheese Desserts on its Instagram platform and wrote choose your favorite. The first place is occupied by Poland’s Sernik, the second place is occupied by India's Ras Malai, and the third place is occupied by Greece's Sfakianopita.

USA’s NYC-style cheesecake ranked fourth, Japan's Japanese cheesecake ranked fifth, Spain's Basque cheesecake ranked sixth, Hungary’s Rakoczi turos ranked seventh, Greece's Melopita ranked eighth, Germany's Kasekuchen ranked ninth and Czech Republic’s Misa rizy ranked tenth.

In the TasteAtlas’s list top position is occupied by Poland's cheesecake Sernik. Sernik is prepared with eggs, sugar, and twarog (a type of curd cheese). The genesis of Sernik dates back to the 17th century when King Jan III Sobieski brought the recipe with him after his victory at the Battle of Vienna against the Turks. One of the most favored varieties of the Sernik has a sponge cake at the bottom, and the top part is covered with fruits and jelly.

Occasionally it is described as rich cheesecake without crust. The name of the dessert comes from two Hindi words Ras - meaning juice and Malai - means cream. This West Bengali-origin dessert is flavored with almonds, cashews, and saffron. Generally, this dish is served chilled with cardamom seeds or dried fruits toppings. This popular dish is mostly enjoyed in the time of Holi and Diwali festivals.
